Deepsky consumer Digicam images with AP 155 and Nikon Coolpix 995.

(1) M42 (3-10-02)
(2) M13 (3-23-02)
(3) M51 (3-24-02)

M42 imaged 3-10-02 with Coolpix 995.
Imaged with AP155, Coolpix 995, 40mm Scopetronix Plossl. Six 60 second, ISO 400 images combined. Temperature 35 F. This was my first attempt with the Coolpix 995 and its 60 second bulb mode worked quite well. I used a dark frame for 5 of the images and the camera's auto NR (Noise Reduction) for the 6th image. The auto NR was less noisy and I didn't notice a reduction in detail. I'll continue experimenting to see if I notice any difference in the future.

M13, Color and Mono, imaged 3-23-02.
Imaged with AP155, Coolpix 995, Pentax XL40mm. Two 60 second, ISO 400 images averaged. The transparency was not good but the temperature was around 22 F. I used the camera's auto NR (Noise Reduction) for both images.

M51 imaged 3-24-02 through thin clouds.
Imaged with AP155, Coolpix 995, Pentax XL40mm. Five 60 second, ISO 400 images averaged. Temperature was around 32 F, transparency was poor. This was my first attempt at M51 and it shows. Still, considering that these 5 images were captured through light clouds, the digicam performed admirably. I'd like to try M51 again now that I have some experience under my belt. Unfortunately, I may not have the cold temperatures again till next winter. The Nikon CP 995 digicam benefits from the cold to cut down the noise at 60 second exposures.
